TRACE

A site specific work, St.Albans...

Working with choreographer Adesola Akinleye, this is a site-specific piece set in a significant space following a period of research.

Commissioned by Dance in Herts and Essex Dance.

The space was discovered by Akinleye and Hamer after investigating a historic street within St. Albans following up a discussion they had with a local resident.

The contempory dance performance has started off as an area of research of the historic city of St. Albans, understanding the ancient and dramatic history of the city and how it has condensed into the living history of its inhabitants.

It has been a fascinating journey through lives, living and recollections of the past to find a narrative that is a conclusion of research and investigation. Brining together the many elements of memory and personal experience.

TRACE only occurs for a moment, within many moments of St. Albans history.  But with a plan to take the performing moment further, to explore the possibilities of site-specific work performed in a conventional theatre environment.

The work was performed live in the location, with four dancers, live music and video projection and a lighting rig made from head lights of a car.

The work went on to developed and was adapted to a stage performance, invited to be performed Co-Mission, Dartington Hall, Resolution! Dance festival At the Place, London, and adapted further to the environment of the rooftops of Swindon, following an invitation to perform at The Big Mission.
