Autumn Window Design 2007
Thumb Print
Andy Hamer

Taking up the monochromatic brief I have decided upon the simple form of a thumbprint.
An image that can bee seen as masculine, as well as playful, relating to the menswear collection and boys wear alike.

  • The image would be double sided printed on foam board panels approximately 6 foot x 3 foot.

  • The panels can be printed alternatively back and white sided, allowing to pair panels in windows side by side in opposite tones. In the same line or staggered.

  • In smaller windows the panels could be displayed with the predominantly black image in the menswear window and white side facing out of the boys window.

  • A further enlargement of the design could be created as a decal, and placed to one side corner of the glass. Due to the open nature of fingerprint design only a limited area of the glass would impair the view of the display. Only the actual lines of print would be applied to the glass in the same way as lettering decals are created.

  • The decal would draw together the various layers of the window display to make it a considered dimension of a display space.

  • Stacking cubes in alternative black and white could be used for stacking and draping of stock.

  • The cubes are of contrasting black and white with the opposite colour of a decal section applied over one edge. Partially covering a side and top of the cube. As if a giant thumb print had been applied. This would only be seen in places, in the spaces through the draped stock. It is subtle devices to fully incorporate the cubes into the design, not to just leave them as display plinths.
