Biography

Andy Hamer

Andy Hamer was educated in Fine Art, during which time he developed an interest in time based medium and installation sculpture.


Hamer was privileged to be invited to be resident theatre design consultant, New Venture Theatre, Brighton. Allowing him creative freedom and building a theatrical sketchbook. For which he received numerous awards and nominations for his work.

           

A fine tuning of his scenographic practice was achieved during the post-graduate study at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, London. Refining skills in, film making and digital media. Further training opportunities were taken by Hamer to study Opera Design at DAMU, School of Theatre and Fine Art, Prague.


Hamer s career has led towards more and more work in designing for contemporary dance. Collaborating with Louse Katerega (choreographer) to produce A State of Becoming, Place Prize semi finalist,2006.

 

 

Hamer has a diverse portfolio of work, Sculpture & installation site specific work, dance theatre and film. Working on projects shown at The Linbury studio, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden London; Robin Hayward Dance Theatre, The Place, London; The Edinburgh Festival. And has worked for the likes of the BBC and the Royal Ballet. However, he has always tried to carry through and build upon his design aesthetic and manifesto for dramatic design, Reductionism. Creating pieces of simple uncluttered beauty but without being devoid of meaning.







Andy Hamer is a member of the following professional bodies:
